This transaction estimates Mercedes at £4.6 billion – an unprecedented figure for an F1 team – after McLaren were valued at £3.5bn in a change of corporate structure in September. The Austrian executive, who owns a 33% stake of the Mercedes F1 operation, would sell a stake approximately 5%. The 53-year-old will remain as team boss and chief executive officer should the deal proceed. Shareholder Breakdown The other shareholders in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes and chemicals giant Ineos Group, who both hold a third of the company. An official representative stated: "We will be making no official statement on this. The management structure of Mercedes F1 will remain unchanged, and each shareholder are fully committed to the ongoing success of Mercedes-Benz in Formula One." Financial Increase This arrangement would represent a significant increase in value of Mercedes F1 after Ineos Group acquired its stake for £208 million in 2022. This surge reflects the expansion in market values of Formula 1 outfits in the past few years as a consequence of the growing popularity of Formula 1 globally. This was also seen in the success of the Formula 1 film featuring Hollywood star Brad Pitt, which was released in summer 2023 and earned more than $630 million (£458m) at the box office. The film represents the actor's top-grossing movie and the highest-earning sports film to date. Current Standings Mercedes are second in the team standings, behind McLaren, with three races remaining in the current championship. Their lead driver George Russell has secured victory in 2 of the 21 grands prix so far and is fourth in the drivers' championship after McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen. Mercedes secured a record eight consecutive constructors' championships and seven driver championships, six for Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, from 2014 to 2021.
