Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
