🔗 Share this article From Acclaim to Fury: Conservative Reaction to Epstein File Release is Divided. Conservative responses to the partial release of documents related to the Epstein case have been sharply divided, with some supporters of the previous administration pointing out the noticeable presence of former President Clinton and other Democrats in photographs, while others lamented how heavy redactions cast Donald Trump and Republicans in a unfavorable light. Administration Justifies Redactions with Fervent Hyperbole Administration representatives defended the heavily censored sections with intense hyperbole. “Never in U.S. the nation's history has a President or the Department of Justice been this transparent with the public about such a sensitive law enforcement matter,” stated Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who issued a detailed letter outlining the redaction process. Concerns Prompted by Redactions While Trump's name and likeness appear in portions of the documents, the extensive black blocks prompt serious questions about the information may be concealed beneath them. Some Republicans swiftly demanded greater openness. “People are furious and walking away,” wrote Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. Via a social media post, Republican Kentucky Thomas Massie said the redactions break the statute, and suggested that a subsequent legislature may attempt to remove the Attorney General, Pam Bondi, for that violation. “Regrettably, this file dump egregiously does not adhere to both the intent and the wording of the act,” he added. Some Conservative Figures Rally Behind the Disclosure However, a segment of conservative commentators and former President allies came out strongly in support of the administration. The disclosed materials—originating from a justice department led by close Trump associate Pam Bondi—contains hundreds of documents that are completely redacted, and numerous of the men depicted in photographs have their faces blacked out. Yet a few do not, featuring prominent individuals like Clinton, entertainer Michael Jackson, and scholar Noam Chomsky. The presence of Clinton, in particular, allowed certain rightwing voices to launch the attack. “This is pretty rich how the Democrats wrongly claimed President Trump of associating with a pedophile, only for the Trump DOJ to unveil documents that depict Bill Clinton swimming nude with a pedophile,” stated right-wing commentator Laura Loomer. “New documents show Bill Clinton shirtless in a jacuzzi with a woman that is other than his wife Hillary Clinton,” posted lawyer Rogan O’Handley. “There’s only one explanation Epstein would take pictures of a Commander-in-Chief with a girl in a jacuzzi: Blackmail.” Former President Spokesperson Releases Statement Clinton has repeatedly said he was aware of no criminal actions by Epstein and has never been alleged to have engaged in any misconduct. “The White House hasn’t been concealing those files for months only to release them late on a Friday to shield Bill Clinton,” his spokesperson Angel Ureña stated in a statement. “This is about shielding officials from future revelations, or from what they will try and hide permanently. So they can release as many low-quality decades-old photos as they desire, but this is not about Bill Clinton. Not previously, not ever be,” the statement added. Overall Rightwing Commentary Remains Muted Nonetheless, overall discourse on the right was relatively muted following the disclosure, particularly when compared with the vociferous calls for action that came before the congressional vote to pass a bill requiring the documents' release. The commentator, who recently secured media access at the Defense Department, had been one of the most vocal advocates for a full disclosure. In February, she chastised the Justice Department broadly and Bondi specifically after a group of rightwing personalities were given physical binders of materials that included little previously unseen information.
